How to Cut a Pineapple From the Tree

Growing your own pineapple tree is very easy to do if you have enough indoor space to house the plant and are willing to wait -- pineapple trees can take as long as two to four years before they bear fruit. However, the wait is definitely worth it. Once your pineapple tree has borne fruit, it is important that you pick the pineapple at just the right time to ensure that it is ripe.

Check the plant regularly for signs that the fruit is ready. Once the pineapple has flowered, you will need to wait an additional six months in order for the fruit to grow and ripen. When the pineapple turns yellow, it is ready to cut off the plant.

Grab the top of the ripened pineapple with one hand and pull the fruit down to expose the stem of the pineapple.

Use a pair of gardening shears to cut the pineapple off the plant at the base of the fruit.
