Round-Leaved House Plants

Houseplants come in an assortment of species with several varieties of foliage, including rounded leaves. Round leaves give a plant a smooth appearance. Feng shui, a Chinese decorating art form, recommends using houseplants with rounded leaves to promote rest and relaxation, according to Gill Hale’s book “The Essential Book of Feng Shui: A Complete Guide to Harmonious Modern Living.”
  1. Flowering

    • Strawberry begonia (Saxifraga stolonifera) is a cascading flowering houseplant that forms rounded, hairy leaves with silver designs. The foliage develops in a loose rosette formation with small runners that grow up to 2 feet. During spring through summer, white flowers blossom on this 6-to-9-inch-tall plant. Grown for its attractive foliage and delicate flowers, money plant (Plectranthus verticillatus) is a native African groundcover used for ornamental hanging baskets. Money plant has square stems with rounded, dark green, glossy leaves. Small white to light mauve flowers develop throughout the year.

    Non-flowering

    • Non-flowering plants grow tiny inconspicuous blossoms or do not produce flowers. Mistletoe fig (Ficus deltoidea) is a common houseplant with rounded, green leaves that have red undersides. This fruit plant grows greenish-white figs that change to an orange or red tone with age. Known for its curly, round foliage, blood leaf (Iresine lindenii “Formosa”) has deep red leaves with light-colored veins. This 3-foot-tall plant has a 1-foot spread with an upright formation. Blood leaf is a low-maintenance plant that has a low heat tolerance.

    Upright

    • Rainbow bush (Portulacaria afra) is an erect houseplant that grows to 3 feet in height. This potted plant has dense, fleshy branches with rounded medium-green leaves. Rainbow bush is a heat-tolerant plant that requires little water and thrives in bright light. An upright succulent, jade tree (Crassula ovata) has a thick brown trunk. This houseplant forms glossy, round to oval-shaped, green leaves. Jade trees blossom with clusters of star-shaped white flowers in the winter.

    Cascading

    • A cascading houseplant, string of buttons (Crassula rupestris) forms vines that grow to several feet. The leaves have a coarse, medium texture with a fleshy, round appearance. String of buttons is a low-maintenance, heat-tolerant plant typically grown in a hanging basket. Some cultivars of English ivy (Hedera helix), a common houseplant, have rounded leaves such as “Caecilia” and “Curly Locks.” Caecilia develops variegated light green leaves with white ruffled edges and grey markings. Curly locks has large foliage with round, wavy lobes.
