Install shelving in front of your living room window to hold your plants. Glass shelving works particularly well for displaying plants because it does not distract from your window. Do not cover the entire window with shelving. Your shelves should be the same height as the bottom of the window. If you have an extra wide windowsill, you can skip this step.
Hang one or several ceiling hooks, from which to hang plants, above the window. Hanging planters are especially effective in living rooms where space is limited. Space the hooks evenly and avoid using too many to keep the window from becoming overcrowded.
Choose plants that require a moderate amount of sunlight. Because the plants are going to be housed in a window, they will receive quite a bit of direct and indirect sunlight. Some good choices of plants to keep in windows are spider plants, English ivy and umbrella plants.
Transport plants to decorative flower pots to be placed on shelves or a windowsill. Arrange the plants to your liking. If you are arranging multiple rows, make sure to keep the taller plants farther away from the window so that they do not block sunlight from smaller plants.
Hang planters from plant hanger hooks placed in front of the window. Plant hanger hooks will add depth and variety to your window plant arrangement. Spider plants work especially well in hanging planters.
