How to Care for Creeping Jenny Houseplants

Grown outdoors as a perennial ground cover, Creeping Jenny, or Lysimachia nummularia, also makes an ideal houseplant that is safe to grow around small children and animals. When grown in a hanging basket, Creeping Jenny’s bright green foliage daintily overflows, growing only as long as you will allow. With proper care, bright yellow, star-shaped flowers fill your home with a pleasant fragrance, adorning the trailing stems of the Creeping Jenny when in bloom.

Instructions

    • 1

Plant the Creeping Jenny in the center of a 12-inch hanging pot filled with organic potting soil. Hang the pot from a sturdy hook in an area that receives bright, filtered sunlight.

    • 2

Remove the basket from the hook during watering. Set the basket in your kitchen sink and water the soil deeply using a watering can. Continue watering heavily until the water flows out of the drainage hole in the bottom of the hanging pot. Rehang when the water stops dripping. Repeat the process whenever the uppermost layer of soil begins to dry out.

Snip the runners when they begin to grow too long for your liking. Use a sharp pair of pruning shears, to trim the foliage to the desired length. Do not be shy about the pruning; Creeping Jenny foliage grows back in no time.

Feed the Creeping Jenny houseplant a diet of slow-release houseplant food. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer’s label. Manufacturers often recommend once-a-month feedings with slow-release fertilizers.
