Let the wheatgrass grow until it is 4 inches tall or taller. Wheat grass grows approximately an inch a day, so this will be about 3 to 5 days after it is planted.
Cut the wheatgrass blades as evenly as possible using sharp scissors.
Keep each blade of wheatgrass at least 2 inches long. Like nearly all grasses, cutting wheatgrass too short may send a signal that the growing environment is dangerous and stunt its growth. To maintain this height, the grass will need a trim every two or three days. Use the snipped wheatgrass as a snack for yourself or a pet and store the extra trimmings in a zip-top cellophane bag in the refrigerator for up to three days.
