How to Make an Automatic Water System for Your Indoor Plants

Plants and flowers not only provide a certain aesthetic appeal to your home or office, but they can actually improve the air quality as well. Unfortunately, life can be hectic and remembering to water the plants may not always be on the top of your to-do list. Luckily, you can create a fairly simple automatic watering system for your houseplants that will slowly water the plants over a number of days or weeks.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty wine bottle and/or soda bottles

Instructions

    • 1

Empty a couple wine bottles or plastic soda bottles. You’ll need one bottle per plant.

    • 2

Fill each bottle with water. If you use any plant food, add it to the water.

    • 3

Screw a plant nanny stake to the top of each bottle. The stakes will screw on just like the bottle caps.

    • 4

Flip the bottle upside down and drive the stake into the soil of your plants. The stake should be in deep enough so that the bottle is held up in the air. The stakes slowly allow water out as needed, watering the plant over a number of days or weeks. Remember to keep an eye on the water levels of the bottles and refill as needed.
