What Are Metal Herb Grinders?

While some herbs are always pungent, others grow more intense when broken up or ground into a powder; in situations where it's best not to do this by hand, you should consider the consistency and convenience of a metal herb grinder.
  1. Materials

    • Metal herb grinders are generally made from machined aluminum; however, some brand name models (like Space Case) are made from titanium.

    Basic Parts

    • By definition, a metal herb grinder will have two opposing faces with interlocking teeth; when rotated, these teeth will chew up the herb, resulting in a ground product.

    More Advanced Models

    • Herb grinders may have anywhere from two to five pieces; while two are always dedicated to the actual grinding apparatus, the others are designed to collect, or filter, the resulting product.

    Storage Compartment

    • Some high-end herb grinders have a space below the grinding mechanism. This area collects the material as it falls through the holes.

    Filter Screen

    • The best metal herb grinders offer a filter screen, which sifts the pollen crystals from the product.
