How to Harvest Mullein

Mullein is an herb that grows naturally throughout much of the world. It is used widely for medicinal qualities that include anti-inflammatory, sedative and analgesic properties. Mullein can also be used as a natural fungicide and pesticide. The plant is tolerant of different types of soil and can be grown almost anywhere that has a warm growing season. Instructions

    • 1

Wait for the mullein plants to begin to grow flowers. The best time to harvest mullein is right before the flowers bloom.

    • 2

Cut the plant at the surface of the soil with gardening shears.

    • 3

Tie string around the stem of the plant. Hang the plant upside down in a dark, dry area. You can do this either inside or outside. But if you do it outside, choose a spot with constant shade.

    • 4

Let the plant hang until the leaves become dry and crumble easily. This can take one to three weeks.
