  1. How To Grow Herbs Indoors

    • 1

Fill the bottom of the pot with at least ½ inch of gravel, 1 inch if the pot is larger than 6 inches. This will provide maximum drainage as long as the pot has holes in the bottom.

    • 2

Fill the pot with a rich potting soil until it is 2 inches below the rim.

    • 3

Place several seeds in the pot on top of the soil. Start with five to 10 seeds in a 6-inch pot.

    • 4

Add more soil, but read the seed planting depth requirements. Each seed may require a different planting depth, so read the package before you add your final soil. Too much soil may halt the growth of the seeds, and too little soil will produce a root system that is too shallow. Do not fill the soil to the rim of the pot.

    • 5

Water the pots thoroughly so that water drains out of the bottom.

    • 6

Wait 10 minutes and drain the tray under the pot.
