How to Harvest Red Clover Herbs

Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is a fast-growing perennial herb that thrives in nutritionally poor and heavy, wet soil. Red clover is used to ease pain and discomfort associated with menstruation and menopause. Historically, red cover was used as a remedy for respiratory disorders.       Cut fresh, new flowers in the early morning. Red clover flowers continuously from May through September. Use a pair of sharp pruning shears to snip the flower head just below where it attaches to the stalk.

      Lay the flowers on a mesh drying screen or a paper towel to dry completely. As the flowers dry they will change from a rich, bright purple to a deeper, purple color.

      Place the dried flowers in a glass jar and store in a cool, dry place until you are ready to use use them for tea, tinctures, or other preparations.
