What Is Smoking Spice?

Spice is the name for a synthetic cannabis created during the 1990s. Marketed as a legal alternative to marijuana, users smoke spice like they would any other plant product. Some countries and localities have banned spice due to its similarities to marijuana.
  1. Function

    • Like cannabis, users of spice smoke the synthetic product by rolling it in tobacco paper and often mixing it with some tobacco leaves, according to the Legal High.

    Effects

    • Smoking spice produces psychoactive effects similar to those of cannabis, such as relaxation and euphoria, according to the Telegraph UK. The main difference between spice and cannabis is a delay between inhaling and the high feeling when smoking spice.

    Warning

    • In the past, companies have sold spice as a legal incense. Studies on the chemical composition of spice found it contained JWH-018--the synthetic compound that gives users a high feeling. JWH-018 is banned in some countries, such as the UK. As of 2010, the US has yet to take any position on spice.
