Bacteriostat and Virostat Homeopathic Remedies

Virostat and bacteriostat agents are those chemicals that interfere with the thriving of bacteria or virus infections. In homeopathic science, several types of herbal or other natural remedies have been found that contain the chemicals necessary to harm or destroy these sorts of infections. Often, the cures overlap, since the minerals, vitamins and other chemicals needed to harm these two kinds of infection are the same. Homeopathic remedies serve not to directly fight the infection, but to more thoroughly mobilize the body's own defenses against them.
  1. Bacteriostatic Agents

    • There are many homeopathic remedies that deal specifically with bacterial infection. In general, vitamins E, the Bs, C and D are essential for fighting bacteria and strengthening the immune system against them. In addition, calcium and potassium are also central chemicals in battling bacteria.

Honey contains all of the above vitamins and minerals and is a powerful bacteriostat homeopathic remedy against infection. In India, turmeric has been used for a long time to fight bacterial infections. It is a wound-healer and can also be used to fight digestive problems.

    Virostatic Agents

    • For fighting viral infections, vitamins A, C and E are essential. These, in conjunction with beta-carotene, selenium and zinc, will strengthen the immune system against viral infections. Important in this field are echinacea, as well as red panax ginseng. Oil of oregano and thymus gland extract are also effective.

    Garlic

    • Garlic is often used as both a bacteriostatic and virostatic substance. It is one of the world's most-powerful antioxidants and antibacterials. Garlic contains the chemical allicin, which is released when garlic is ground or crushed. This substance is responsible for most of garlic's health action and is effective against all infections. There is no evidence that the body ever builds up resistance to allicin.

    Cranberries

    • This berry is also a very powerful substance in fighting viral and bacterial infections. It contains proanthocyanidins, which serve to fight all forms of infection but have a specific action against bacteria.

Proanthocyanidins prevent bacteria from adhering to the stomach and kidneys, permitting them to be flushed out of the body. They also prevent bacteria from reproducing -- even those bacteria that have proved resistant to other methods of treatment. While cranberries are powerful fighters against bacterial urinary tract infections, there is some emerging research showing that they have anti-viral properties, as well.
