Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This is especially important to prevent food contamination if you are not going to cook your sprouts. Gently pull apart the sprouts to separate and loosen them. Put the salad spinner strainer inside the bowl. Put the alfalfa sprouts inside the strainer. Before putting the strainer in your sink, plug your sink. Alfalfa sprout hulls may grow sprouts in your sink.
Place the strainer under cool running water. The running water will separate the hulls and they will begin to float to the top. When the water is covered with brown hulls, push the sprout mass down and the hulls will slough off with the water and run down the sides of the bowl. Pull the sprouts apart again to separate them and repeat the running water process as many times as necessary to remove all the hulls.
Take the strainer out of the bowl when the sprouts look dehulled. Some hulls will gravitate to the bottom of the bowl. Scrape all the hulls out of your sink and and empty both the hulls and what's left in the bowl into the trash. Rinse your bowl and place the strainer inside. Put the spinner top on the strainer and start spinning. This will not only dry out your sprouts out for condensation-free refrigeration but will get rid of any remaining hulls you missed.
Repeat the spinning process three or four times to completely drain the sprouts of water. Once the sprouts are dry, they can be refrigerated.
