Crafts Using Lemon Verbena

Lemon verbena smells strongly of lemon, and can be used in a number of ways. It will keep its scent for a number of years after it has been dried, making it an aromatic herb to use in crafting. You can keep bundles of lemon verbena tied and hung in your craft room to use whenever a project warrants it.
  1. Potpourri Sachets

    • Lemon verbena, when combined with cinnamon, dried lemon peel and cloves, will make a potpourri that can be placed in decorative plates or bowls around the home. The potpourri may also be placed in vases where silk flowers are used to add scent to the arrangement.

When the potpourri is placed in organza or muslin drawstring bags, they become sachets. These can be hung from coat hangers or placed within drawers. They keep clothes from smelling musty.

    Wreaths

    • Kitchen wreaths are created using fresh herbs. These wreaths are hung in the kitchen, away from the stove. They dry over time on their own, and both the fresh and dried herbs are used in cooking. Lemon verbena makes a tea, and can be used when making cakes or cooking fish.

Lemon verbena is one of four or five herbs that kitchen wreaths are made with. When using herbs that are already dry, the wreaths can be hung anywhere. They are used on the front door, in the kitchen or on the side of a building in the garden. Mini wreaths are hung in windows.

    Bath Products

    • Lemon verbena is used when making many bath and body products at home, including shampoos and body scrubs. The herb is often combined with other herbs and highly scented items such as dried fruit peels.

Lemon verbena can be used to make bath teas or in homemade soap. Perfumes and bath sachets are also created using this herb.

    Herb Arrangements

    • Arrangements from herbs are created in the same manner as those that use flowers: by scent or how the plants will look together. For instance, a cinnamon-scented basil would pair well with lemon verbena. Or, you may choose to use herbs that look good together, such as verbena and chives with blossoms attached.

When using these herbs fresh from the garden, place them in a vase filled with marbles and water. Dried, they should be placed inside a vase that contains marbles or aquarium rocks. Tie a ribbon under the lip of the vase.
