How to Smoke Rice Paper

Smokers who choose to roll their own cigarettes do so for many reasons, ranging from the cost effectiveness of buying supplies in bulk and avoiding heavy taxes, to the freedom of choosing their own sizes and materials. Rice paper is a popular choice for rolling and smoking because it's made from rice plant fibers, providing a fine, sheer material that burns slowly and allows the smoker to savor the experience.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Crease your rolling paper if it's a single-wide piece. Fold it in half, with the gum strip along the long, unfolded side.

    • 2

Position and hold your rolling paper in both hands at the center crease, with the gum strip at the top and facing you.

    • 3

Insert your filter or tip into one end of the crease. Hold it with your index or middle finger and your thumb.

    • 4

Add your tobacco or herbs evenly along the crease. Spread them evenly to ensure your cigarette has a smooth cylindrical shape.

    • 5

Shape the cigarette. With your thumbs nearest you, and your index or middle fingers behind the paper, roll your thumbs upward and your fingers downward, then reverse. Do this a couple times until the tobacco has taken the shape of a cigarette.

    • 6

Roll your thumbs upward and your fingers downward until you have only a narrow strip of paper left under your thumbs, rolling upward toward the gum strip.

    • 7

Seal the cigarette. With only the gum strip exposed, moisten the strip with your tongue and press across to seal.

    • 8

Light your freshly rolled cigarette. Hold a flame to the end as you inhale through the filter. Once lit, your rice paper cigarette should burn slowly.
