Neem Seed Oil for Fleas

Neem seed oil comes from the neem tree, commonly grown in southern Asia. Where neem grows naturally, it is common to place dried leaves in books and closet storage to prevent insect damage. Neem is also effective in repelling mosquitoes, fleas and other insects.
  1. Benefits

    • Neem seed oil an alternative to chemical treatments. Although the initial cost for a small bottle of neem seed oil may be high, you save money by using less oil than you would a prepared flea treatment.

    Method

    • Add a few drops of neem seed oil to pet shampoo before bathing the animal. Treat carpets by adding several drops of oil to a spray bottle filled with witch hazel or isopropyl alcohol. Test spot an inconspicuous area first to ensure it won't stain. Lightly mist the carpet and allow it to air-dry.

    Considerations

    • Be aware of prepared neem products, as opposed to pure neem seed oil, as these may contain additional ingredients. Depending on the extent of the flea problem, several applications and treatments may be necessary.
