Pinworms & Black Walnut Tincture

Pinworms are small, thin, white worms that infest the large intestines, creating a blockage of the appendix if left untreated. Black walnut tincture acts as a laxative, destroying and eliminating pinworms.
  1. Adult Use

    • Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, and James F. Balch, MD, recommend adults taking the black walnut tincture internally three times per day on an empty stomach. They also suggest using calendula ointment or witch hazel externally to prevent itching.

    Child Use

    • Black walnut tincture is not appropriate for children under 12, according to "Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child." Children age 12 and up can take up to 3 drops, 3 times per day, for no more than 7 days. An acidophilus supplement taken daily for 1 month is recommended to help restore the intestines.

    Prevention

    • Pinworms spread rapidly between people by contact, and reinfestation often occurs as a result of ingesting the eggs. Scratching the anal area results in eggs accumulating under the fingernails, from which they're transferred to the mouth, other people and household surfaces. Wash hands and scrub fingernails frequently to prevent spreading the pinworms.
