Instructions

    • 1

Plant the cucumbers in indoor pots three to four weeks before the last frost of the season. Put one or two seeds in each square pot—the seeds should be covered by one inch of soil. Water the plants every few days to keep the soil moist but be careful not to over-water.

    • 2

Prepare the soil in your garden for planting. Rake the soil in the garden to turn it up and add compost or manure on top of the bed along with some fertilizer. Cucumbers grow best in warm soil that has a pH level of 5.8 to 7.

    • 3

Transplant the cucumber seedlings into the prepared soil. Space the plants 6 inches apart in rows that are 4 inches apart.

    • 4

Continually water the cucumbers every few days to keep the soil moist. When the plants start to develop a vine, lay down a layer of mulch. This will keep the soil moist and warm and help keep your cucumbers from lying directly on the dirt.

    • 5

Harvest the fruits of your labor. The cucumbers will produce ripe fruit within a few weeks. Pick the cucumbers when they are 6 to 8 inches long.
