Prepare the hole. Use a shovel to dig a hole deep enough to plant the tomato plant are about 2 inches lower than they were in the pot.
Place the raisin tomato plant into the hole and refill the hole so the plant is supported.
Water the plant to help the soil settle into place around the plant. Use a commercial fertilizer solution to water the plants for best growth. You may need to add additional soil around the plant after watering.
Secure a bamboo pole or other stake to support the raisin tomato plant. These plants grow as vines. Staking them keeps them from lying on the ground, where they can get wet and rot.
Tie the Tomaccio to the stake with twine. As the plant grows, you will need to check the ties to make sure they are secure.
Pinch off any suckers, which are side shoots that grow where the main stem and branches meet, off the vine as they form. For best production, the raisin tomato should have one central vine.
Harvest the tomatoes as soon as they turn red. If you want to let them dry on the vine, cut each cluster off with a sharp pair of scissors and set them out in the sun or in a sunny windowsill.
