Growing Bell Peppers With Epsom Salts

Epsom salts, or magnesium sulfate, consist of both magnesium and sulfur. Both minerals aid plants in chlorophyll production, and magnesium is instrumental in helping plants absorb necessary nutrients like potassium and nitrogen. Magnesium and sulfur add to the health and productivity of bell peppers. Magnesium deficiencies in the soil prevent fruit from setting, and any blossoms that are produced fall from the plant. Epsom salts add magnesium to the plant’s diet and increase the harvest with more, larger and thicker walled fruit.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a gallon jug with lukewarm water.

    • 2

Add 1 tbsp. Epsom salts to the water.

    • 3

Shake the jug to dissolve the Epsom salts.

    • 4

Pour the contents of the jug into a spray bottle.

    • 5

Spray the solution on transplants right after planting them in the garden. Spray well to completely dampen the plant so any excess drips off the leaves and falls to the ground.

    • 6

Spray the solution on plants again right after blossoms appear on the pepper plants.

    • 7

Spray solution on plants once more after 10 days, or when fruit sets on the plant.
