There are many things to take under consideration when you set out to grow cherry tomatoes in the house with very little sunlight. There has to be some sort of light source in order for the tomato plants to thrive. The two main things that a tomato plant demands are plenty of light and heat. You must also consider that while you can indeed grow tomato plants in a container, their root systems are extensive. This means that the plants may not produce as much fruit as they would if they were outdoors.
Select a location for your containers with access to an electrical outlet for the lamps.
Setup your plant stand or table. Place the pots on the stand and fill each one with potting soil. As a rule, the larger the pot is, the happier the tomato plant will be. Place a single plant into each pot. Water and fertilize the plants according to manufacturer instructions for the brand of fertilizer you choose.
Set up the lamps strategically so that they offer maximum light to your tomato plants. Provide at least seven to eight hours of light everyday; more is better. Fluorescent lighting works best with the plants.
Check your plants daily. Tomatoes need plenty of water to grow, but do not over-water them. The soil should be moist when you touch it.
