Chicken wire wrapped over a cone-shaped tomato cage mimics the conical shape of a traditional Christmas tree. This durable faux tree can be can be used for decorating inside or outside. Once the cone shape is created, the chicken wire can be decorated with lights, ribbons and ornaments. A roll of chicken wire and tomato cages can be purchased at most home improvement or garden supply stores. Six of these cones decorated with lights and placed in a grove on the front lawn make a brilliant holiday display.
Place one of the tomato cages upside down so that the three wires point skyward.
Cut a 6-inch piece of wire from the wire spool with a pair of wire cutters. Bring the three wire tines together in the middle and tie them together with the 6-inch piece of wire. Cut the excess wire away once the tines are secured together.
Wrap the tomato cage with chicken wire. Fasten the chicken wire to the tomato cage in several places using wire from the wire spool. Wrap from the point of the cage downward until the entire cage is encased in chicken wire.
Wrap Christmas lights around the cone from top to bottom and fasten the lights to the chicken wire with wire from the metal spool. Repeat this process for all six trees and then set them up in the yard. Plug the trees in and enjoy.
