Domed Potting Plants

Growing plants in pots and containers makes it easy to extend garden areas to decks, patios, balconies and entryways. Potted plants also go indoors to brighten living spaces. A large variety of plants in a range of forms grow easily in containers. These include flowering or non-flowering dome or round shaped plants with a uniform shape. Success with potted plants starts with choosing the container according to mature plant size and using a well-drained growing medium.
  1. Golden Dome Hebe

    • Golden dome hebe (Hebe rakaiensis 'Golden Dome') is among the flowering domed potting plants with its compact, rounded growth habit and white flowers that appear in spring and summer. Golden dome hebe is a dense evergreen shrub with shiny, bright green foliage and is hardy in USDA zones 8 to 11 (annual minimumf of 10F). The small mature form of the plant with a full height and spread of 1 ½ to 2 feet makes it well suited for growing in pots and containers and as a low growing border. Place in areas of full sun to partial shade for best growth and water regularly.

    Abbotswood Potentilla

    • Abbotswood potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa 'Abbotswood') is a native North American shrub with a dwarf growth and a domed mature form. Abbotswood potentilla has a full height of about 2 feet with a 3 feet spread and grows at a moderate speed. The small shrub blooms with a mass of white flowers in summer and its gray green plant foliage is deciduous. Abbotswood potentilla is hardy in USDA zones 3 to 7 (-40F) and prefers to grows in full sun. Water the shrub regularly for optimal growth. The flowers of the deer-resistant shrub attract butterflies.

    Bennett's Compact Holly

    • Bennet's compact holly (Ilex crenata 'Bennett's Compacta') is a dense-growing, dwarf holly with a domed mature form. The evergreen plant is popularly used as a container plant and for creating borders and hedges. Bennett's compact holly is hardy in USDA zones 6 to 9 and achieves a full height of 3 to 4 feet with a 4 to 5 feet spread. The slow-growing shrub blooms with white flowers in spring and the glossy, leathery foliage is dark green in color. Bennet's compact holly grows best in areas of full sun. Plant in a well-drained, acidic, moist soil for optimal growth.
