Care Instructions for a Burning Bush

Burning bush (Euonymus alatus) is an easy-to-grow shrub with a mature height of 6 to 10 feet. The bright red fall foliage color gives the plant its name. Burning bush is hardy in USDA zones 4 to 8.
  1. Soil

    • Plant burning bush in a well-drained soil. The plant is intolerant of heavy clay soil and adapts to alkalinity. Cover the roots with organic mulch to retain moisture.

    Water

    • Water the plant regularly during dry weather spells. Also water regularly if growing in areas of full sun.

    Light

    • Burning bush adapts well to areas of full sun to full shade. The plant prefers to grow in partial shade.

    Propagation

    • Burning bush grows easily from seed. You can also propagate the shrub from greenwood cuttings taken during spring or summer.
