Pre-emergence Herbicide for Strawberries

Weed control is an important part of growing strawberries, as uncontrolled weeds can seriously damage plants quickly. Weeds compete for water, nutrients and light and increase strawberry plants' susceptibility to diseases and insect infestations. Several pre-emergence herbicides can be used with strawberries.
  1. Carfentrazone

    • Carfentrazone is recommended by the University of Florida Extension as a pre-emergent herbicide for weed control in strawberries. Apply herbicides between rows before planting.

    Terbacil

    • The University of Florida Extension lists terbacil as a pre-planting herbicide for strawberry plants that are transplanted. Terbacil is sold under different trade names.

    Oxyfluorfen

    • Oxyfluorfen is listed by the University of California Extension site as a pre-emergent herbicide for strawberry plants. It is especially effective for a number of weeds that are not affected by soil fumigants. These include filaree and little mallow.
