Fall Bouquets With Sunflowers

While sunflowers are most often identified as large yellow flowers with prominent brown centers, they actually come in a number of varieties, sizes and colors, making them a perfect choice for bouquets. Thought of as summer blooms, sunflowers can actually thrive well into fall in Northern climates. Many varieties are available from your local florist throughout the year.
  1. Wedding

    • Sunflowers and autumn weddings are a good match. For a casual ceremony, a bride might choose to carry one large sunny yellow bloom wrapped in raffia or ribbon or a grouping of small-headed or dwarf sunflowers in shades of bronze, brown and muted orange. In a more formal bouquet, surround a yellow sunflower with gerbera daisies in shades of red or combine smaller sunflower blooms with roses and baby's breath. Center the reception table at a casual outdoor wedding with bouquets of different types of sunflowers casually arranged in vintage crocks or Mason jars.

    Halloween

    • All Halloween décor doesn't have to be frightening. There is a place for flower bouquets containing sunflowers. Tuck a bouquet of mums and sunflowers into a small vase and put the vase into a colorful trick or treat bag featuring a Jack-o-lantern or ghost motif. A bouquet of sunflowers and black roses, which are often available for Halloween, in a vase shaped like a ghost or bat adds a bewitching touch to a table decorated for Halloween. Attach Halloween-themed balloons to a bouquet of sunflowers, orange gerbera daisies and yellow roses to celebrate a Halloween birthday or other special occasion.

    Thanksgiving

    • A bouquet of dried sunflowers coupled with straw flowers, fall leaves, pine cones and mums arranged in a basket make the perfect addition to a casual outdoor Thanksgiving feast. Present the ladies at your Thanksgiving celebration with nosegays -- small bouquets, fashioned from dwarf sunflowers, rose hips and baby's breath. Tuck a sunflower bouquet into a basket shaped like a horn of plenty and surround it with various fruits, vegetables, nuts and berries.

    Everyday

    • It's easy to find ways to use sunflower bouquets in your everyday life. A bouquet of three large sunflowers tied together with ribbon or raffia and tucked into a grapevine wreath gives your front door fall curb appeal. A bouquet of dried sunflowers, hydrangeas and straw flowers will decorate the farm table in your kitchen from late August until the holidays. Tie dried sunflowers together with twine into three or four bouquets and suspend them upside down from ceiling beams or clip them to lengths of clothesline and hang them as window valances with fall flair.
