How to Mix Boric Acid Solution to Control Strawberry Leaf Fungus

Strawberries grow on hardy, lush plants, which thrive for three to five years. The plants require bright sun, rich soil and generous moisture, and may fall prey to a range of molds and fungi. Mold appears on blossoms, foliage and eventually fruit, and affects plant health and fruit harvest. Mix your own fungicide to fight mold, apply it at the right time and supplement with organic care for healthy strawberry harvests.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a boric acid solution in a spray bottle for easy application. Mix 1 1/2 to 2 cups of boric acid or borax to 1 gallon of warm water to dilute the acid.

    • 2

Spray strawberries with the solution as a preventative for fungus and mold. Spray young blooms lightly when they open, and spray again when all blooms are fully open. Don't spray the fruit, and don't spray before blooming; the best treatment occurs at the most likely time of infection.

    • 3

Supplement the boric acid treatment with a 2-inch layer of organic mulch on the soil. Mulch keeps soil from splashing on the plants, and so prevents soil-borne diseases such as fungus.
