Water Audrey Hepburn hybrid teas during the growing season so that the soil is saturated to a depth of approximately 1 foot. Water at least every two weeks unless the climate is extremely hot and dry, in which case more more frequent watering will be required. Apply the water directly to the soil so that moisture does not promote plant disease on the leaves and petals.
Place a 2- to 4-inch layer of mulch in the landscape bed with the roses each spring. The mulch will keep weeds under control and retain moisture for the shrub.
Spread a fertilizer around the rose bushes in the early spring, late spring to early summer and in mid-July. A balanced fertilizer, such as 10-10-10, typically is sufficient for this hybrid tea rose. If the soil's nutrient levels are a concern, submit a sample to a laboratory for testing before the fertilizer application. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for the quantity of fertilizer necessary around each rose bush. Do not apply fertilizer during the late weeks of summer so that the plants will begin to slow their growth before the winter months.
Spray the roses with an insecticide and fungicide to protect against disease. Most problems arise during warm, rainy times of the year. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Choose products designed for hybrid tea roses and the Audrey Hepburn variety.
Cut dead flower blossoms from the plant during the summer growing seasons. Audrey Hepburn roses will produce continuous flowers during the summer. Routinely inspect the plants, and shear off the dead flowers.
Place a mound of mulch or a rose cone around each bush to protect it from harsh winter weather. Prepare the shrubs when the first freeze approaches. A 10-inch mound of mulch around the gathered and tied branches will help protect the rose from winter weather. For extremely cold climates, consider using a rose cone, which is a cover placed over the entire plant and filled with a mulch to protect the branches.
