During the summer growing season, pinch off dead blooms as they appear. Grip the bloom with your gloved hand and give a gentle pull to separate the spent bloom from the plant.
Cut diseased or dead canes from the ballerina rose as often as needed with a pair of sharp pruning shears. Make a 45-degree cut, approximately 1 inch below the damaged cane.
Reduce the size of the ballerina rose after it blooms. If your ballerina rose is growing quickly, trim it back as much as one-third of the way to keep it in check. Cutting every fourth or fifth cane is best when performing a severe pruning.
Pinch off any leaves that remain after the growing season if the hybrid musk rose was exposed to foliar diseases. Simply grip the leaves with gloved hands and give a little tug to release the leaf from the stem.
