How to Prune Floribunda Roses Below the Candelabra

Floribunda is a type of rose bush that produces a plethora of blooms from summer through fall. The floribundas flower on old wood, so heavy pruning of old wood will deplete instead of aid the amount of flowers your rosebush produces. The candelabra, also known as the inflorescence of the floribunda rose, is the complete flowering part of the plant. Pruning below the candelabra will cause a dormant bud to bloom instead and will not harm flowering.

      Remove broken or diseased canes from the floribunda rose. Cut the canes off at the base of the rose plant. Leave at least three to five canes of old growth on the rosebush.

      Cut back one-quarter to one-third of the current year's growth of the floribunda rose. Cut the candelabra growth back to the desired height with the pruners.

      Cut out the middle branch from each cluster of floribunda rose branches. Cut back all the other branches to three or four dormant buds on the branch.
