How to Grow Aloe White Fox

Aloe "White Fox" (Aloe rauhii), like other aloe varieties, has thick, succulent leaves with serrated edges. Its foliage is covered in white spots that grow more pronounced with increased sun exposure. Aloe White Fox may be damaged or killed by temperatures that drop to 40 degrees Fahrenheit and must be kept indoors during fall and winter in all but the warmest locations. It requires full sun and soil with excellent drainage. This plant makes a good choice for novice gardeners because it requires very little care after planting.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a 4- to 6-inch planter with at least one drainage hole in the bottom so that excess moisture can escape.

    • 2

Fill the planter halfway with cactus-growing mix. Place the roots of the aloe White Fox into the planter and finish filling with the growing mix. Pat down lightly to firm and remove pockets of air.

    • 3

Add enough water to saturate the soil well.

    • 4

Place the planter in a sunny outdoor location or in a west- or south-facing window.

    • 5

Allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Soak the soil thoroughly at each watering during spring and summer months. Add just enough moisture to prevent the foliage from shriveling during winter.

    • 6

Feed with 10-40-10 fertilizer, applied at half the recommended rate, early each spring.

    • 7

Move outdoor-grown plants back inside during fall, before temperatures drop to 40 F.
