How to Care for a Prosperity Plant

The prosperity plant, or an assortment of bamboo shoots woven together, is often used in the practice of feng shui. The individual shoots are selected for their color or ability to bend around other shoots, often creating a specific design intended to bring prosperity or happiness into a household. Plants often live for years under proper care and can grow up to 8 feet in length. Though many bamboo plants are sold in pots of water and pebbles, plants can live just as well in soil.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the plant in partial sun in a room with medium humidity, no colder than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure there are no drafts or cold gusts of air that will come in contact with the shoots.

    • 2

Rinse out the old water and replace it with fresh water every two weeks if the shoots are planted in water. Cover the roots with at least 3 inches of water.

    • 3

Mist the bamboo with warm water if it’s planted in soil, enough to keep the soil moist, and make sure the soil is not too dense or packed closely together. Add sand or moss if the soil is too dense.

    • 4

Remove any shoots of bamboo that are off-color or brown. Remove any leaves that have wilted.
