How to Grow Dracaena Warneckii

Stiped dracaena (Dracaena warneckii) can serve as a house decoration, and it acts as an air purifier as well. Dracaena warneckii helps remove formaldehyde from the air, according to the NASA Clean Air Study. The medium sized plant has long, slender, pointed foliage with distinct white stripes running down the leaves. These plants need low to partial sunlight, about four hours per day, and do not require a lot of water, so a place near a window indoors will suffice.

Instructions

    • 1

Re-pot a newly purchased Dracaena warneckii into a larger pot with a soil-based potting mix. The new pot will give the plant room to grow.

    • 2

Water the plantwhen the top 1/2 to 1 inch of soil is dry. Don't over-water the plant.

    • 3

Fertilize the Dracaena warneckii each month between spring and fall with a liquid fertilizer at half strength. Liquid fertilizers require that you dilute them with water, and they come with instructions on how to mix the solution. Half strength refers to the ratio of fertilizer to water. To mix half strength, use the recommended amount of water but only use half of the amount of fertilizer that the fertilizer instructions recommend.

    • 4

Transfer the Dracaena warneckii plant to a larger pot with fresh soil and fertilizer when it outgrows its current pot. To determine when this is necessary, simply tip the plant out of the pot to check the root system. If a lot of roots are visible outside of the soil ball, it is time to re-pot the plant. Since Dracaena warneckiis grow slowly due to the low amount of sunlight they require, you probably will not need to re-pot them every year.
