How to Make Hanging Succulent Boxes

Succulent collections can take up a lot of space. If you love succulents, but are running out of space, make a succulent box where you can take cuttings from your collection and combine them into a piece of living artwork. This DIY project is very simple to assemble and plant. After planting, you’ll need to wait 12 weeks before hanging the box on the wall in order to give the plants time to establish strong roots.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the back of the shadow box and cut out a piece of plastic chicken wire that is roughly the same size.

    • 2

Position the wire into the frame behind the front piece and staple it into position with a staple gun.

    • 3

Put the back piece back onto the frame and fill the frame with succulent soil.

    • 4

Select your cuttings and press them into the soil through the plastic chicken wire.

    • 5

Water the cuttings and wait for the plants to take root. This usually takes about 6 to 7 days.

Water the box again whenever the soil is completely dry. After 12 weeks, hang the frame in an area of your home with morning sunlight. Take the frame down as needed for watering.
