FoxFarm is a family-run business that provides various types of garden products. Among these products are grow mediums that can be used in place of soil to germinate seeds. Plants started in growing mediums have the benefit of growing in insect-free and disease-free conditions that often result in faster germination than regular dirt. FoxFarm supplies specific products for starting healthy seeds in soil-less conditions.
Obtain plastic containers for the seeds. Anything can be used, as long as they are at least 2 to 3 inches deep and have drainage holes. Seed flats with individual cells are often used.
Mix one part FoxFarm Big & Chunky perlite with three parts Light Warrior Agro-ponic Grow Medium. Fill the containers with the mixture.
Moisten the mixture with water. Allow all the excess water to drain out.
Place the seeds at the recommended depth in the mixture. Planting instructions vary according to type of plant, but can usually be found on the packaging.
Place the seed containers in an environment with the proper temperature. Although the recommended germinating temperature various among species, most plants grow the best at 78 degrees F.
Check the grow medium mixture regularly by lightly feeling it with your fingers. Water it when it feels dry. The perlite soaks up a lot of moisture. As a result, plants in a growing medium tend to require less watering than those in soil.
Transplant the plants after they have sprouted into healthy seedlings. Make sure the plants are big enough to overcome the stress of transplanting before moving them.
