How to Grow Bunny Tail From Seed

Fill a six-pack planting container with a thoroughly combined mixture of equal parts potting soil and medium-grit sand. Leave a 1/8-inch space between the top of the pot and the surface of the soil.

Mist each cell in the planting container with a spray bottle until the soil feels moist to a depth of 1/2 inch. Apply approximately five or six spritzes to each cell.

Place two bunny ear grass seeds in each cell of the 6-pack planting container. Cover the seeds with a 1/4-inch-thick layer of potting soil. Pat the soil firm over the seeds.

Place the six-pack planting container where it will receive very bright, direct sunlight such as near a large window with southern exposure or inside an unventilated cold frame outdoors, depending on what is available to you.

Mist the soil in the six-pack planting container every other day so the soil stays evenly moist at a depth of 1/2 inch during the germination period.

Watch for germination in 10 to 12 days. Thin the bunny tail grass seedlings to one per cell as soon as they grow to 1 inch in height. Remove the thinner or less vigorous of the two plants.

Keep the bunny tail grass seedlings indoors or inside the cold frame until all danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures warm to 68 F. Plant them 6 inches apart in a sunny bed with good drainage.
