Lantana montevidensis, more commonly known as trailing or weeping lantana, is a compact evergreen plant often used as a ground cover. It has deeply etched heart-shaped leaves and produces 1- to 3-inch wide blooms, from spring until early fall, in purple, white, yellow or pink. Lantana montevidensis grows well in full sun or part shade. It thrives in rich, well-drained soil and is winter hardy throughout U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 8 to 10.
Plant Lantana montevidensis with its roots at the same level as in the pots they came in and water deeply. Amend the soil with 3 to 4 inches of compost before planting if drainage is questionable.
Water twice each week, unless 1 inch or more of rain has fallen.
Feed every month, from spring until late summer, with balanced fertilizer. Apply the fertilizer at half the rate indicated on package instructions.
Cut off blooms as they fade to promote continuous flowering.
Prune back to soil level in late winter, which encourages the development of healthy new foliage.
