Set aside space somewhere in your garage or shed for your mushroom cultivation project. The room or area has to have a temperature ranging between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, with no direct sunlight. A fluorescent bulb can be used as artificial lighting.
Vaporize the room using a standard vaporizer. Your target is to attain 95 percent humidity. However, you also need ventilation, so get a small fan to provide this for you. The air circulation provided by the fan prevents unwanted fungus from growing.
Cut wheat straw into 3-inch long pieces and place inside a pillow case. Wheat straw aids in the mushrooms' growth. Dip the pillow case in hot water until it is soaked. Then drain and leave alone for three to four hours.
Disinfect the growing area well using bleach.
Transfer the straw pieces to a plastic bag.
Place the mushroom spawn inside the plastic bag with the wheat straw pieces and shake. Seal the plastic bag. Puncture the bag so that air can enter the bag. Make sure the object you use for puncturing the bag is sterile and not so big it will open a large hole.
Store in a dark area and turn on the fan and vaporizer. Leave alone for two weeks.
Look inside the plastic bag after two weeks. Small mounds indicate where the mushroom spawn has set in and will now grow "warts" that turn into mushrooms.
