The Easy Way to Grow Mushrooms

Growing mushrooms is easier than planting vegetables because you don't even need a garden. With many varieties to choose from, grow the mushrooms you use in your cooking and salads at home. Among the most easy to grow are button mushrooms. One of the benefits of button mushrooms is they can be harvested early in the maturation process, but you can also let them mature, creating a mushroom that had a rich and complex flavor.

Things You'll Need

  • Mushroom spores
  • Growing tray
  • Newspaper
  • Water

Instructions

      Fill your growing tray with the compost. Add water to the compost until it is moist and crumbles when touched.

      Add spores to the compost. Push down the compost with so it becomes flat.

      Keep growing tray in a place where the temperature remains between 65 and 70 degrees F, misting it two times per day with water.

      Continue for two to three weeks until a white webbing appears on the surface of the compost.

      Add peat moss over the emerging mushrooms. Damped the peat with water.

      Cover peat with newspaper and damped with water. Allow to sit for 10 days, misting the newspaper to keep it moist.

      Remove the newspaper. Mushrooms will begin to grow in a few days. Harvest when they reach the desired size.
