Dusty miller (Senecio cineraria) is a native of the Mediterranean and is a popular indoor plant grown for its silvery-gray color. Dusty miller is also used in hanging baskets.
Dusty miller has a mounded shape with a full height of about 2 feet. The fuzzy, silvery gray leaves are 4 inches wide and fernlike with shallow-to-deep incision. The plant occasionally flowers with 1-inch wide, yellow flower heads.
Grow dusty miller in areas receiving full sun in a well-drained soil. The plant prefers indoor temperatures of 50 F to 75 F and moderate levels of humidity. Fertilize twice a year. Water enough to keep soil moist at all times.
Dusty miller is susceptible to mealy bug, spider mites and aphids. Inspect new plants carefully before placing with other indoor plants.
