Pesticides & Herbicides for Blueberries

Blueberry bushes are not only grown for their fruit but are also used as hedges and screens. Blueberry bushes are popular ornamentals with their pink or white spring blooming flowers. A number of herbicides and pesticides are recommended for blueberry pest and weed control.

  1. Malathion

    • The pesticide malathion is effective for the control of plum, curculio, blueberry tip borer and fruit worm in blueberries, as cited by University of Delaware Extension.

    Sevin

    • Pesticides containing Sevin control blueberry maggots and fruit worm in blueberries, especially at the blueberry ripening stage. The pesticide is recommended by University of Delaware Extension.

    Glyphosate

    • Michigan State University Extension cites glyphosate as the most effective herbicide for post-emergent weed control in blueberries. Glyphosate is a very hazardous chemical. Practice extreme caution to avoid damaging blueberry plants.
