A primrose is a low maintenance gardener's best friend; they require minimal fussing and produce the brightest and earliest blooms of the spring. If you tend to your primrose garden properly, you may be able to coax two full fledged blooming sessions from them; once in early spring, and again at the end of summer. Here's how to grow big and beautiful primroses.
Plant your primroses somewhere in the garden where they will get a fair amount of sun; preferably early morning sun. They also do fairly well in the shade, but try and avoid planting a primrose in a location where the sun will beat down on them at the hottest point of the day.
Water your primroses well. A primrose garden will require a bit of watering, but make sure that they are planted in soil that drains well-standing water is bad for any garden.
Treat your primroses to a bit of fertilizer. This does not have to be a regular occurrence; once a month or so will do.
After your primroses have bloomed, and the flowers have wilted, cut off the entire stem encasement where the flower was. This aggressive pruning will help to encourage a second blooming session.
A healthy primrose will actually grow runners; a start of a whole new plant. Look for these to grow your primrose garden larger, or share them with a gardening friend!
