Weed Control in Established Clover

Clover is a native of southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia Minor. White clover and red clover are the two major clover varieties. Weed control is an important part of clover management, as weeds affect the health of plants by competing for nutrients, water and space.

  1. Identification

    • Imazamox and pendimethalin work as effective weed control herbicides for use on clover. The chemicals are sold under different trade names.

    Description

    • Pendimethalin controls a variety of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. The selective herbicide is sold in the form of wettable powder, granules and emulsifiable concentrate. Imazmox is also a selective herbicide effective for the control of broadleaved weeds and annual grasses. The herbicide is registered for use in a number of legume crops.

    Function

    • Products containing pendimethalin provide preemergence and early and late postemergence weed control in clover. Imazamox herbicides are effective in controlling postemergent weeds in clover.
