Flowable Herbicides

Herbicides are chemical used to control the growth of unwanted vegetation such as weeds in desired plantings. The chemicals are available in various forms including flowable. In flowable herbicides, the active ingredient is in the form of a finely ground powder mixed with a small amount of emulsifiers and suspended in a liquid.

  1. Types

    • Flowable herbicides have two classifications: liquid or dry flowable. Flowable herbicides for weed management include atrazine and oryzaline. Both chemicals are availalbe under different trade names.

    Description

    • Oryzalin herbicides are selective, surface applied products that control weeds prior to their emergence by retarding the germination of weed seeds. The herbicide is also formulated as a wettable powder and aqueous suspension. Products containing atrazine may be used as selective or non-selective weed management. The herbicide is also sold in the form of liquid, flowable liquid, wettable powder and water dispersible granular.

    Targeted Weeds

    • Oryzalin can help control a variety of broadleaf weeds and annual grasses in fruit and nut trees, bermudagrass turf, vineyards and ornamental plants. Atrazine effectively controls grassy and broadleaf weeds in several crops including pineapple, sugarcane and corn. The herbicide is also used in conifer and Christmas tree plantings.
