How to Care for a Clematis Jasmine

A clematis is defined as a climbing vine and jasmine is one such plant. The flowers of the jasmine plant are typically white, and they are loved for their strong fragrance. The jasmine flowers in the summer, producing blooms with waxy white (sometimes yellow, depending on the species) petals and shiny, oval leaves. If a jasmine plant is well taken care of and has been able to develop a strong root system, it will continue to bloom and climb, growing bigger year after year.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the perfect jasmine. It is difficult to plant a clematis from the seed and have it survive, so visit to the local nursery and find a plant that is already well-established. The ideal jasmine is about 1 foot tall with multiple stems.

    • 2

Plant your jasmine in the ground or in a pot. Use bone meal sprinkled around the hole to nourish the clematis and help it grow healthily and put peat moss on top of the soil in a layer several inches thick.

    • 3

Feed and water the jasmine regularly. Water daily while the roots are establishing themselves. Less frequent watering will be required once the plant begins to flourish, though hot summer months will require more water. Once buds have developed, the jasmine should be fed approximately once a month with flower fertilizer.

Prune black or wilted leaves; this prevents the stem from rotting and allows new leaves and buds to grow.
