What Is a Yellow Jasmine?

Yellow jasmine is also referred to as Carolina yellow jasmine (or jessamine) and evening trumpet flowers. This perennial vine is especially common in the south. When unsupported, it grows as a ground cover.

  1. Identification

    • Yellow jasmine typically grows 10 to 20 feet tall and has a 3- to 6-foot spread. Dark green leaves take on a somewhat purple or yellow cast in the winter. Yellow trumpet-shaped flowers grow in clusters and are highly fragrant.

    Planting Considerations

    • Yellow jasmine is recommended for USDA hardiness zones 7 to 10. It is a suitable porch or patio cover when grown on a trellis. It easily grows up trees and over fences. Yellow jasmine is poisonous and should never be ingested.

    Habitat

    • Yellow jasmine prefers and grows best in full sunlight and moist (well-drained) soil with a pH range of 6.8 to 7.2. However, it does grow in partial shade. It is both heat and cold tolerant.
