Information on Juncus Inflexus Blue Arrow Grass

Juncus Inflexus Blue Arrow Grass is a warm-season grass that mixes in well with other ornamental grasses in a landscape. It gets its name from the blue-colored foliage.

  1. Location

    • Blue Arrow fairs well near water sources such as ponds and in landscapes that may experience drought. Spacing requirements are 10 to 14 inches apart. This grass will grow up to 36 inches high and 12 inches across.

    Environment

    • This perennial grass prefers full sun in U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 5 through 9. It is hardy in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit and can tolerate hot environments as well.

    Propagation

    • The roots of Blue Arrow Grass can spread and be difficult to remove. Propagation is by root spreading or by reseeding. Blue Arrow Grass can be dug up during the spring or mid-summer and divided into several clusters without damaging the plants.

    Trimming

    • Trimming should be done in the late fall or early spring to about 2 inches tall. If you wait until spring, take care not to cut the new growth that may be emerging.
