The University of California Extension recommends the use of mecoprop and dicamba for the control of perennial and annual clover weeds. Products containing 2, 4-D do not control clover. Herbicidal control options for chicory include triclopyr and MCPA.
Clover plants are 6 to 8 inches tall with heart-shaped foliage and white to pink flowers. The leaves are green with white crescents. Chicory has basal, toothed foliage that grows in a rosette form. The weed blooms with light blue flowers on leafless stems during late spring.
Clover and chicory are both used in foraging plots for deer for their high nutritional value. Clover thrives in soil pH of 6.0 and lasts up to 5 years. Chicory is highly digestible to deer and is drought tolerant. The plant absorbs minerals from the soil at a better rate than clover.
