Do Primroses Have Pods?

Primroses (Primula spp.) are spring blooming perennials with flower colors that include blue, orange, red, purple, pink, white and yellow. The plants also are grown as winter annuals. Primroses do not produce pods.
  1. Description

    • The plant has 10-inch long, semi-evergreen, oval foliage with crinkly tops and downy undersides. The leaf edges are scalloped or toothed. The tubular, 1-inch flowers on short stalks grow in clusters of 3 to 25 and rise a few inches above the foliage.

    Habitat

    • Primroses are native to Southern Europe and Western Asia, where the flowers are found mostly in shaded woods and are considered a wildflower. The plant is hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 8 and does not grow well in areas with hot weather. You also can grow the flowers as an indoor plant.

    Cultural Conditions

    • Plant primroses in a moist, well drained soil and in a partially shaded area. If you are growing the flower indoors, place in bright light and avoid direct sunlight. Do not plant in waterlogged soil. Propagate with stem cuttings or by seeding directly on the soil.
