How to Get Rid of Bee Balm

Dig carefully around the plant's root area and lift out the entire plant. Follow roots as deep into the ground as possible and pull out all root sections. It is easy for plants to start sprouting from small root pieces.

Smother the bee balm plant to get rid of it. Start by cutting the plant to ground level, then cover with flat cardboard boxes, overlapping the layers like shingles. Cover with a layer of mulch several inches deep, using leaves, wood chips or grass clippings. Cutting off air and light to the plant will gradually kill it entirely.

Use recommended herbicides as a fast and effective of getting rid of the plant. Use products containing glyphosate to kill bee balm, as this broad-spectrum, general-use pesticide is effective on nearly all perennials and annuals, including weeds, grasses and woody plants, reports the Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Wait three to four weeks for the plant to die after applying a chemical. Repeat herbicidal application if the plant does not die entirely. Dig out the plant and remove it from the ground after it dies.
